Before we get in to the demonstration and routine, let's consider these points:
Current trends now indicate that by the end of 2011, 81% of Americans will be obese.
Shortly after the birth of our nation, 220 years ago, 95% of the energy output of this country was from the human body (sheer man-power.) Today it is less than 1%.
We believe that there is a direct correlation between these statements. Everyone knows that eating fried and fast foods leads to obesity. However, the biggest reason obesity in America has steadily increased, is as follows:
We have become a sedentary society - we're not moving enough!!! Our evolution as a society from agricultural to industrial to technological has left our bodies behind.
Even when given a choice most people will choose to move less. This is especially true if you and your spouse partake in the same lackadaisical lifestyle. Think I'm exaggerating? Next time you're at the grocery store, watch someone wait 5 minutes to park 50 feet closer! Elevators, escalators, automobiles, golf carts, remote controls, gas fireplaces-- all these things make life easier but they're rendering
our bodies inactive. Americans are sedentary, meaning they don't move unless they have to. Only 10% are physically fit! Which category do you and your mate fit in?
It is precisely for this reason that we should make it a habit to exercise everyday. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, everyone should get a minimum of 30 minutes of daily exercise. But that formula is clearly not working. Why? We at Focus28 believe it's unrealistic for most people to set aside 30 minutes a day to exercise with all of our daily responsibilities.
If you and your spouse are struggling to move and fit in some fitness, here is your solution:
Set a goal to exercise everyday, but for only 10 minutes. This will annihilate the excuse of, "I just dont have the time today." Are you kidding me? You will have more time watching commercials in a half hour TV program than if you just got up and did your 10-minute-workout!
Lets see this theory in action -
Over the years, we at Focus 28, have proven that people are far more successful at reaching their fitness goals when they increase the frequency, increase the intensity (workout more vigorously) and decrease the total time spent working out (just 10 minutes a day). To demonstrate why this is the case, lets look at the comparison between Amy and Rachel.
Amy decides to use the conventional approach of working out 2 to 3 times a week for 30 to 45 minutes. Amy starts out great. Then, the second week things get really busy and she misses a day. The next week things get even busier and she misses 2 workouts. Her total workouts for the month = 11.
Rachel decides to try the new approach of exercising for only 10 minutes a day. Rachel's first week starts fine but things stay busy all month. At only 10 minutes a day, she manages to stay much more consistent. Her total workouts for the month = 26!
We at Focus28 challenge you to take our "28-day challenge." Studies have shown that it takes a minimum of 28 days to establish a habit. That's why we call our company Focus28!
We challenge you to change your habits by committing to 1) becoming less sedentary and 2) exercising everyday for 28 days for only 10 minutes. When you finish the "28-day challenge," whether or not you and your spouse stick to an exercise program, at least you'll have a better understanding of how valuable it is to move and exercise throughout your day. This new ISO-Towel workout will be available on DVD this month - coming soon - so keep checking the Diet.com Store for details.
