What should a woman eat during the menopause period?

Bridgett

i know they need vitamin D but wat should they eat and wat else does the body need?

Avery

Difficulty: ModerateInstructionsThings You'll Need:Bottled Water Calcium Supplement Fiber Supplements Step 1Watch your caloric intake: A 55-year-old woman needs only 1700 calories/day. Understand that if you eat more than you need, these excess calories will end up as fat. Step 2Get enough calcium. A woman going through menopause needs 1000 mg of calcium a day, as does a post-menopausal woman on hormone replacement therapy. Those not on HRT need 1500 mg. of calcium/day. Step 3Talk to your doctor about taking a daily calcium supplement tablet, since it's difficult to get all the calcium you need through food. Step 4Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, which contain an abundance of vitamins B6, B12, folic acid and certain antioxidants, which can help women through menopause and ease the aging process. Step 5Choose foods high in phytoestrogens - yams, eggs, soy products, potatoes, oats, tomatos, eggplant, apples, pomegranates, dates and cherries. Intestinal bacteria can transform these foods into sexual hormones your body can use to offset menopausal-related hormonal depletions. Step 6Let complex carbohydrates account for 60-80% of your daily calories. Such foods include whole grain breads and cereals, pasta and rice. Step 7Avoid excessive amounts of salt to reduce bloating associated with hormonal changes. Step 8Consume plenty of fiber to insure regular bowels movement. A daily regular movement is integral for a feeling of well-being. Step 9Drink 8-12 glasses of water a day. Good hydration keeps the body in homeostasis. Menopause brings uncomfortable and sometimes bad effects on a woman’s body. Not one can stop menopausal period because it’s a natural part of ageing. Fresh food is an important part of a good menopausal diet. Fresh fruits and vegetables are vital to any healthy diet and there are many healthy properties to incorporating them into your diet while you are in menopause. You can also add sliced fruit to cereal (most people use bananas, strawberries or raspberries, but you should try some slices of apply too). Carrot sticks and dried apricots are great foods to snack on throughout the day or to take with lunch. Finish your day with a banana before bedtime.

Postmenopausal women should consume 1,500 mg of calcium daily to prevent loss of bone mineral density. 400 IU daily dose of Vitamin D would assist in the calcium absorption.

Eat fruits. Fruits is always good for the body.

Can you get the menopause when you are on the pill?

Jacqulyn

I am 38and still taking the pill although recently I have been having symptoms that match the menopause, I am not sure if this is possible?

Bill

Its sounds like your going through the early signs of the menopause. You can be like this for awhile. Best to go to your doctors and get a blood test done. Also fine out if any one in your family has been through the menopause early. The pill might not be suitable for you if you are going through the menopause.

Laure

Yes it is. See you physician.

Cara

yes, my guess is that you are just pre-menopausal.

Barry

yes but by taking the pill helps reduce the effects of the menopauseyou are quite young though

Bryon

Being on the pill does not cause menopause or prevent it either. Fact of life is we all have to go through it. Unfortunately, it makes us crazy for about 10 to 20 years as we go through premenopause until we finally get to menapause.

Emilee

Unfortunately nothing can be done to avoid menopause. Forever young is not within our reach. The pill can do nothing to stop this, it's just some hormons that will soften the effects of menopause. Sorry.

Charise

Pills supply you with necessary regular hormones which makes your cycle come regularly. Menopause means ablation of this hormones. Menopausal symptoms like hot flushes and nervousness and so on but most important is irregular menses at the beginning the complete amenorrhea.

How is a hysterectomy induced menopause likely to last?

Terina

I had a full hysterectomy a year ago and have been going through an induced menopause ever since, I was just wondering how long it is likely to last as i know it is not as long as a normal menopause. I will not take HRT.

Marquis

Hi. Symptoms of menopause vary from woman to woman. Nobody can tell you how long you will experience the symptoms. Through research i have done ( i had a hysterectomy also ), it can be 1 to 10 years. Some women never have any symptoms at all ( hard to believe, but it's true ). Other women seen to experience symptoms for many years. I took hormones, and i regret it now. I have thyroid disease, and cancer. I believe taking hormones for 15 years caused both conditions. It may help with the symptoms, but it's not worth the risk. If i had it to do all over again, i would not have taken them. Having a hot flash is better then having cancer. Good luck. Hang in there :-)

Diedre

No HRT, but natural remedies for your menopause, that will last a bit of time with some stress, some headacke, anxiety, weightgain etc... but you can try this one: http://menopauseandweight. com it's really intersting to try, they had done very good results. GOD bless...

Deja

It will last the rest of your life as the hormones do not reappear after a few years.
