How old is a woman when they start going through menopause?

Iliana

Usually around their middle to late 40s

Charis

depends on the individual. i would say in their 50's with some being earlier and some being later.

Dorene

It depends on the person and family history. My mother started peri-menopause in her early 40's (about 41, I think) and I've had hot flashes & night sweats for nearly a year and I'm only 38. My sister (32) has already gone through it completely, but she's an odd case (premature menopause).

Irving

Usually sometime between 45 and 55, with 51 being the average age. HTH : )

My mother started experiencing pre menopause symptoms?

Annalee

she is 51 and she started experiencing it since 46 or 47!she got her periods now..3 days earlier and is hardly bleeding and has a lot of pain..!when will her menopause start any idea?

Rashad

Actually, her 'menopause' has already started. (It is not full menopause yet, because she is still having periods) She is going through what is called - peri-menopause - which is the few years before her periods actually stop altogether. When her periods stop, totally, for a full year (no periods at all) then she has actually entered menopause (meaning no periods)Most women usually stop their periods altogether when they are around 51 or 52.And the periods before these years can be irregular and can cause distress. Has she seen a physician lately? This might be a good idea for her to get a good check-up to see that everything is o. k. Encourage her to see her doctor - And continue to give her support - She is lucky to have you for her daughter because you care about her. Take Care.

Bobbie

All bleeding from the vagina are not menstrual bleeding or period. Heavy bleeding or irregular bleeding in between periods should be brought to the attention of a doctor and get treatment soon.

Why does menopause cause women to be a little mean? how long does menopause last?

Adrian

Why does menopause cause meanness? I notice that women tend to be a little mean when going through "the change"Why? How long does menopause last? Women are kind of crazy during menopause. My mom sure is moody lately. I can't wait for her to be done. I don't live with my parents but when I visit she can be a little mean sometimes lately. How long does it last? Why are menopausal women so mean?

Loreta

It's pretty much the same issue as PMS, fluctuating hormone levels alter a person's mood.

Elma

I take a natural product that really helps with hot flashes, moods, and energy. It's all natural and really helps. Call me at 909-261-6246 or email vanannajanke@yahoo. com. Thanks, Anna Report Abuse

Phyllis

It is called moon swings, and its "Mental pause" with power surges! and yes 7-10 years. We get depressed too. Be patient she needs to get on something. If no HRT, try Omega-3 vitamins ot flax seed oil, they will help with her symptoms.

Annabel

menopause last about 7 - ten years, yes that's right, suggest some extra estrogen for a while will help with her emotions, and will also feel better

Estela

You get that way because of your hormones. You aren't producing as much and it wacks you out more ways than one.

Lesha

It is all due to harmonal changes. Do not worry.

Is getting your period at a very young age any indication that you will go through menopause earlier?

Lois

no every womans body is different but that dosent mean you'll start menopause earlier. My mom thought that too and she asked her doctor about it and he said no.

Orlando

you probably will go through it normally. if you got it when you were under 10 you may get menopause earlier. talk to your mom

Andria

no the time you get your period to the time it ends with menopause varies in all women

Arlinda

nope. Every woman is different. Starting early is no indication of when you may go thru menopause.

Darrell

I think this is one of the things that we will see when this generation of teens who began periods when their age was still a single digit. Two cousins began at 9; both girls were heavy, so they ate a lot of meat, which had been given hormones for more productivity. What will this do to them as women is in the future because the current generation going through menopause started at 12-13 or so. I have a lot of food allergies -- I cannot eat anything that has been in the sea. I used to be able to, but that was before the water has become polluted with mercury and zinc. It just seems that no one in the FDA will look at the long term effects -- and your question is not just excellent, it is powerful because we just do not know. Think of the book by PD James and the recent movie where no children had been born for over 20 years. I read the book a long time ago and thought pure S/F -- now, I don't think it is S/F but a distinct possibility.

Women age 47 or over did you ever miss a period before menopause that was not pregnancy?

Abbie

I am just turned 48, I have not had my period for seven weeks now, up to then very regular periods, never pregnant, not pregnant now (unless it was Immaculate Conception, lol). I think I am too young to go into menopause, never had any hormone problems. Last month my breasts were really sore the whole month which was unusual. Do you have any insight to share with me?

Karina

1 - you are within the age range when menipause typically begins (called perimenopause)2 - missed periods are common in perimenopause (so are altered ovulation schedules, which is how so many change-of-life-babies happen)3 - see your gyn, you are also within the age range of several reproductive disorders regardless of whether or not you are sexually active (and missed periods can be a symptom of some of them).

Latisha

You are not too young to go through menopause, usually your periods will slow down, maybe 2 or 3 a year. that may continue for a few years until they stop. you need to go to your gyney for him to do a FSH, LH blood test. that is a hormone test to see if your starting menopause.

Is it true that just before menopause women become extra fertile?

Hershel

I have heard that as menopause approaches womens hormones alter such that they experience a last surge of super-fertility and that this is to blame for many 'accidents' created long after parents have thought their baby days were over. Is this true or an old wives tale?

Madge

You've been watching Downton abbey haven't you. To answer your question sounds like an old wive's tale to me. I think maybe a lot of pregnancies at that time are from people who have stopped taking precautions because they think they've hit the menopause.

Mariana

I don't think it necessarily true. I think when a woman enters that part of her life it's the last thing on her mind and may even think she can't get pregnant right then. But surprise. It happens.

Alden

I wouldn't think so. It's a fact that older women have a harder time getting pregnant, and are more at risk for miscarriages and birth defects because their egg quality has decreased over time.
