If i go to the gynecologist can she tell me how far i am from menopause?

Geneva

Currently, I am on my period. They are irregular sometimes I dont even have one. For the last 3 months I have had regular cycles. I am 43 yrs old and started having nite sweats and hot flashes. How do they know if I am menopausal or pre menopausal?

Alfreda

If you're not using any sort of hormone therapy including BCP's, then yes. It is a simple blood test series (usually 2-4 draws) that measure a hormone called FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone). If it drops below a certain level, it indicates that menopause is occurring (called "peri-menopause").You can do the same thing at home with a urine test called MenoCheck. It also checks for the same hormone as the blood test, but you won't have to go in to the office for several visits. The sites below have some great resources and information regarding menopause.

Kory

been thereright now you are pre-menopausalbut talk to your doctor she can give you estrogen pills to help with the night sweats and hot flashesbecause your in for this for quite a few more years depending on when you started your period9-11 you could be about 48-50 (menopause)i will pray for you --that it comes soon--good luck

Well from stuff I have been reading, it can be hard to tell from a blood test, because your hormone levels vary ALOT. I can tell you that I am the same age, and have been experiencing the same stuff for about a year now - so you are DEF not alone. Try Ivillage. com they have a forum and ALOTof good info on perimenopause - which is what we are in.....I myself have had good luck with black cohosh tablets - make sure they are a good brand. It helped the hot flashes especially. Good luck - you aren't alone & I know it SUX!!!!!

Jerome

The do a blood test called an FSH level, or follicle stimulating hormone level and it is useful to confirm menopause.

Is it possible to have a period post menopause?

Therese

The doc. and test indicate I’ve been post menopausal for the past 6 months I have not had a period for over a year but recently I have had the onset of pre-mins. cramping and a period. What is going on? Is this normal?

Elvira

Most of the time if you have not had a period for over a year, they say menopause is complete and you should not have any more periods, ovulate or be able to conceive. The average woman completes menopause at 52, but I have known it to be as late as 58. That is not normal and you might want to check with your doctor, as it could be caused by something other than being a regular period. best wishes..

Darcie

Irregular periods is one of the symptoms of post menopause. Most of the time there is a reasonable explanation for a post-menopausal bleeding event, but any kind of irregular bleeding particularly if you haven’t had a natural period for over a year, you are advisable to consult your health care provider, just to rule out anything serious.

Amado

Check with your doc, post menopausal bleeding signals something is wrong

I am 15 years old and have osteoporosis what is likely to happen when i get into menopause?

Clay

How brittle will my bones get?

Lynette

I suggest you try ingesting leafy green vegetables as a source of calcium. Unfortunately, animal proteins like milk actually withdraw more calcium from bones than they add. The Nurses' Study showed that women who drink three or more glasses of milk were more likely to suffer from osteoporosis. Milk and dairy also prolong your exposure to estrogen by causing an early menstruation and late menopause. This poses a risk of breast and other forms of cancer. Men also increase their risk of prostate cancer by consuming excess quantities of dairy products. Hormones in milk, even organic milk, are extremely powerful and detrimental to humans. If you are willing to eat a well-balanced vegetarian diet, you can avoid all milk and dairy products. The standard American diet is far too rich in animal proteins for optimal health. For research to back up my statements, please look online for the web side of T. Colin Campbell, an eminent researcher in the field of nutrition.

Augustine

You can still reverse the damage or prevent it. But it would likely get worse... how much is solely depending on you.

Carole

Its most likely to get worst because during menopause the amount of oestrogen in your bones drops and it is oestrogen that helps calcium stay in your bones, lack of oestrogen = lack of calcium and the strength of your bones can weaken however the deterioration can be slowed down by a good diet contaning lots of calcium

Hedy

When you reach menopause you will consider using hormones to prevent further damage to your bones. Hormones get a very bad press and many of the scare stories are highly exaggerated.
