The monthly changes during pregnancy

Pregnancy is a wonderful experience in itself. It lasts for a period of nine months or forty weeks. However it may vary a bit here and there for different women.

The first month is characterized by conception, when the actual fertilization of egg takes place. It is possible that you may not immediately realize that you are pregnant. However the single fertilized egg rapidly divides to form a zygote.  The different physical aspects of the baby are determined in the first month itself along with implantation taking place.

In the second month of pregnancy many vital organs like heart begin to form, besides hands and legs. Even the heart beat can be heard to an extent. The cell mass is now considered as a proper fetus. The placenta also develops in this month and helps in nutrient provision and excreta removal of the fetus.
