Some information on Seasonale

Birth control pills have become quite popular among women who prefer using contraception as a means to avoid getting pregnant. The oral contraceptive pills are a part of hormonal contraception methods, which include contraceptive rings and patches as well. The oral contraceptive pills are either combination pills, commonly known as ‘the pill' or mini pills. Both the types of pills can be used as a daily contraception, as both provide almost similar protection. These oral contraceptive pills are said to consist of artificial female hormones. Combination pills contain both estrogen and progesterone, while the mini pills consist of only progesterone, which is they are also referred to as ‘progesterone only pills'. Seasonale is one of the most popular and effective combination pills available on the market.

Seasonale was the first extendable-cycle oral contraceptive pill to be introduced on the market, meaning that women can have their menstrual cycle less frequently. This pill has been given its name as it allows you to have periods only 4 times a year, or every season of the year. Seasonale pills are manufactured by Duramed Pharmaceuticals, Inc. This pill is a combination pill, which means that it consists of two artificial female hormones. It consist ethinylestradiol (artificial estrogen) and levonorgestrel (artificial progesterone) as its active ingredient. This pill has been proven to be almost 99% effective in preventing women from getting pregnant. Women can also get rid of menstrual symptoms such as menstrual cramps, irritability and excess bleeding. This birth control pill provides you with protection against pregnancy in three ways.

Seasonale pill works by preventing ovulation from occurring, by tricking your body into believing that ovulation has already occurred, in order to prevent an egg from being produced. It thickens the cervical mucus in your womb, so as to prevent a sperm from entering and fertilizing an egg. Lastly, it alters the womb lining so as to prevent an egg, if at all produced and fertilized, from attaching and growing further. This pill is best effective if taken on the very first day of your periods. If you somehow miss taking a Seasonale pill on the very first day, you need to take an extra precaution in order to stay completely protected. The bleeding that you experience while taking the 7 inactive pills is actually because of the withdrawal of your active pills and not your actual menstrual bleeding.

You need to take this birth control pill with a full glass of water, either with or without food. But if you face difficulties such as upset stomach, then it is advisable that you take the pill along with food. Each of the Seasonale pack consists of 91 pills, of which 84 are active and 7 are inactive pills. You are to take these pills without a break, and are supposed to start another one as soon as you finish one pack. You need to take one Seasonale pill on a daily basis and a fixed time, whichever I suitable for you to remember. This pill can be taken by women who are 18 years old or above, but should be avoided by women who are already pregnant or breastfeeding.
