4 Simple Steps to Avoid Hysterectomy Weight Gain

Hysterectomy is a surgery that can disrupt a woman's hormonal balance. With removal of the ovaries, a woman's estrogen levels decline. With this decrease in estrogen levels, male androgen hormones can predominate and lead to deposit of significant abdominal fat. This inevitable hormonal imbalance that can occur when everything is removed including the uterus, fallpian tubes and ovaries can be difficult for many women.

Here are 4 steps to prevent unwanted weight gain:

1. Have the right mindset

In order to keep the weight off after hysterectomy, you have to believe that you have the discipline and consistency to stick with a plan. Without the right mindset, you cannot meet your goal to avoid the potential weight gain. When things get tough, you will likely give in when the situation calls for you to be strong and stick with it. With anything that requires great discipline, you must be mentally tough and determined to meet your goal.

2. Eat intelligently by eating the right foods

This seems like a no-brainer but it is a fundamental mistake made by those who set out to take off unwanted pounds. You must eat a healthy diet that will keep your metabolism operating at a level that helps you burn fat. Do this by eating whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, poultry lean meats, raw nuts, legumes, beans, seeds and whole eggs. It's not all about counting calories. Although this has its place, it is more important to eat the right foods.

3. Drink plenty of water

Water is a critical aspect for fat burning and maintenance of proper health. Water helps to burn stored fat and rids the body of excess toxins. Water also helps to prevent bloating and constipation. Another significant benefit is its ability to curb your appetite. Try to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water daily for maximum benefit.

4. Do the right exercises

Eating right is a must to prevent hysterectomy weight gain but you must also include exercise. Most importantly, your focus should be on cardiovascular exercise. Shoot for 30 to 60 minutes of moderate to intense cardiovascular activity. This, in addition to proper eating, will help to melt unwanted fat easily and quickly.

If your fitness is at the beginner level, it is perfectly fine to start off exercising 5 to 10 minutes at a time. You can work your way up as your fitness improves. Even with this level of exercise, you will quickly begin seeing results.
